My name is Lucy Chen, and I am a junior at Elkins High School. I am the historian for Melody Mentors, meaning that I keep records, assist with the managing of the organization as a whole, and edit the website. I have been playing the piano for ten years, and it has been a great source of joy.
I began taking exams with the Royal Conservatory of Music until I moved to the U.S. in 2016, and I passed all of my RCM exams with distinction. Since 2018, I have taken my exams under the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music; I passed my Grade 7 exam last year with distinction, and I am currently working on my Grade 8 exam, which is the highest ABRSM level.
Ever since I first started playing the piano, I have loved to play in concerts; before moving to the U.S, I played in at least two concerts put on by my music school each year. I participated in the best Mozart Performance 2019, and I got a 3rd place prize, and that same year, I performed at the Houston Young Musician’s Gala. In April of 2022, I played Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu for an international Music of the 19th Century competition, and I received a third place prize.
I look forward to providing beginner, intermediate, and new music students guidance and mentoring!
