Hello! My name is Angela Wang, and I am currently a junior at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. I’ve been playing the piano for 10 years and the violin for 7 years as of this year, and music has truly taught me a lot. Some of my piano achievements include the American Protégé International Music Competition Spring 2021 3rd place, GCC series Art of Piano 2nd place, Best Tchaikovsky Performance 2nd place, Best Debussy performance 3rd place, Artist of the Year 3rd place, and ABRSM Level 7 distinction. Besides piano, I have also participated in the All-Region orchestra and received Rating 1’s in Solo and Ensemble for the past 5 years and am currently an active member in the Clements High School Chamber Strings orchestra. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering around the community and spending time with friends and family.

Growing up, I had always taken music lessons for granted and actually resented having to learn the piano. It was only until my family faced a financial crisis that I was unable to continue music lessons and I then realized that it was a privilege to be able to have a teacher’s guidance. Fast forward 5 years later, our financial situation has improved but I will never forget that period of time when I had to struggle with self-learning and motivating myself to keep practicing and improving, and it was because of my personal experience that I decided to start this organization. In light of the special circumstances and the millions of jobs lost due to the coronavirus pandemic, I feel like it is especially hard to cover the tuition cost of lessons now, causing many students to feel at a loss of how to continue to enhance their musicianship skills. Through our mentoring, I hope to be able to provide an experience to youth of all levels and aid them in pursuing higher-level education in the future. Music has the potential to solve many issues in the world and I strongly believe that having a passion for music will help greatly in life whether or not it is pursued professionally or as a hobby. With Melody Mentors, me and my team will do our best to make a difference in the music community and provide a reality to those who are unable to afford lessons.
